How to Get Rid of Acne Scars

As if dealing with acne in the first place is not bad enough, we need to worry about acne scars once the blemishes go away.  In some cases, acne scars can be worse than acne itself because of the permanent nature of these blemishes.  Because no one wants to go through life having unsightly acne scars on their face, here are a few tips to help you get rid of acne scars once and for all.

Punch Excursion/Punch Elevation

Punch excursion or punch evasion is a detailed process that some dermatologists employ when trying to remove acne scars from their patients’ face.  This specific procedure is performed using a small surgical tool which is used to cut out acne scars.  The resulting wounds are then stuttered using skin adhesives, leaving your face looking younger and smoother.

Punch elevation is the process of raising the base of the acne scars so that your face appears more leveled and fine.  By raising the level of an acne scar, dermatologists are able to diminish the appearance of the scar, making it appear as if the scar was never there in the first place.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that can be used to get rid of acne scars.  When undergoing a dermabrasion procedure, the acne scars are frozen and then sanded down by an abrasive instrument.  By sanding down the areas of your skin where acne scars are present, your body will create a new layer of skin to replace the affected skin, reducing the appearance of acne scars.  This technique is generally only used to treat the most severe cases of acne scars.

Subcision

Subcision is another popular method used by many people who suffer from acne scars and wish to get rid of them.  Subcision is a good way to remove acne scars completely as the process entails separating the fibrous bands that support the scars by inserting a sharp needle with an upward pointing tip near the scar.  Repeatedly making to and fro movements with the needle will help separate the scar from the dermis, allowing you to completely remove the acne scar.  If you suffer from mild acne scarring, subcision may be your best bet when it comes to getting rid of acne scars.

Laser Resurfacing

One of the more modern acne scar removal techniques is laser resurfacing.  Laser resurfacing uses highly focused lasers to destroy the scarred area one layer at a time.  Once several layers of scarred skin are removed, fresh skin will be left behind, resulting in smooth, scar free skin.  The best part of laser resurfacing is that it can be used to treat all types of acne scars whereas some of the other techniques listed above are only good option if you have serious acne scarring.

As is the case with any medical procedure, you will want to consult a professional before making any decisions on how you will go about removing your acne scars.  Speaking to a qualified dermatologist will help you determine which acne scar removal process is the right one for you.
